For me being green, living an ecofriendly lifestyle and caring for the environment is more than just buying local produce, watch my electricity bill and eating organic. It’s also about things like keeping our environment clean, reforestation, biodiversity and conservation.

It’s so important that we keep the biodiversity, that we go for conservation so species don’t disappear. And then I mean ALL species. Every life on this planet is important for our ecosystems. If one particular specie were to disappear, more will follow because everything is connected.

And as much as I dislike certain species like bees and wasps, I’m well aware how important they are in the ecosystem. It doesn’t matter how big or small the species are, how pretty or ugly or how unimportant they seem. We need to go for conservation to make sure all species survive.

Our greed for more land to build houses on, more oil and space to grow food on is a one way ticket for disaster. We cut down trees like it doesn’t mean anything. We take away the habitat of many animals as if they don’t have a right to be there, we think we own this planet. While in fact we only borrow it and have to share it with all other life on earth. A good read to realise how important all species are is “Why We Need Seagrasses”. I suggest you read it so you get a better understanding of the importance of conservation and biodiversity.

Reading about it, expanding your knowledge on the matter, is a good step in the right direction. But there is more we can do! Right now world leaders are gathered in Nagoya, Japan for negotiations on the global Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). We can take a stand and show them how important it is we support the protection of our ecosystems and biodiversity. You can sign this petition which will be presented in Japan, but action has to be taken NOW because the convention is this month. So don’t wait, don’t hesitate but sign it and let your voice be heard.

It might seem trivial to some of you, but if we don’t take action, don’t stand up and raise our voices for ecosystem protection all life on earth will feel the consequences! It only takes a minute of your time and it matters for the rest of your life!
