WORK OVERLOAD
Generally, as a rule, I don’t blog about work but today is a little exception. Not that I’m going to talk about the job or about where I work but I was thinking about this and wonder how others feel about this.
Lately we have a lot of mandatory off days because of (national) holidays. And as much as I love a day off work to relax, I don’t like mandatory days that much. Sure the day itself is usually great. The day after usually isn’t. Work keeps coming in on those days off with no one to deal with it. So the next day there is a work overload with double the work, and most of the time only half the amount of people to finish it.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and don’t mind working hard. But when it gets to a point where I’m working overtime on the overtime it’s a little less fun.
I know I should be happy to have a solid job in this day and age, and I really am. That doesn’t mean one doesn’t need to vent and ‘complain’ once in a while.
So next week another mandatory day is coming up followed by a working day with only a few people in. I can already see major overtime coming up, on top of the overtime I’m already doing…
Does your workplace have mandatory days? And if so, how do they/you deal with the extra work load the next day?

I am a college teacher, so I only work a couple days a week. I go to school too, so I don’t have to worry about it. I like the mandatory days that I get off from school, though! I can see how it would suck coming back to all of the work though.
I feel like a poophead for not having been keeping in touch. Your rss feed was broken for a little bit I think and all of a sudden, I found that you have a ton of posts that I’ve missed!
I understand that must be stressful! I work at a law firm but we don’t get “mandatory” days off. As long as you have a building key, you can come in practically any time and any day if you need to get stuff done. It’s when I take personal vacations that it’s no fun because I know that when I get back I’ll barely be able to move around because I’m surrounded by boxes of stuff!

Actually the company I work at is open 24/7/365. We never close, and if a Holiday falls on a schedule work day.. guess what I work.
