H1N1
Also known as swine flu….
About 2,5 weeks ago I got sick during the weekend, just your general flu symptoms and I figured I would wait a day or so before I called my GP. After all it was the weekend and I didn’t feel like I needed to call the emergency doctors number (not 911) for something like the flu.
On that Monday after the weekend I phoned the doctor’s office only to hear a relieved assistant telling me she was really really happy I hadn’t just walked in the office as my symptoms indicated H1N1. I was told to call back at a certain hour to speak to the doctor himself, who later confirmed the assistant’s suspicions; H1N1.
He told me there was nothing I could do than tough it out like a regular flu but to keep an eye on it that it wouldn’t get worse and it was to get better in about a week. He did add that I should have called during the weekend, that way he could have given me something to make the symptoms less horrible. But should’ve, could’ve, would’ve .. I didn’t so there was nothing else to do but lay in bed and feel miserable.
I’m not one to generally feel really sick with a slight cold but I have to admit that this H1N1 flu string has a nasty streak to it, I felt horrible and miserable for at least a week but the symptoms didn’t go away, although I did feel a little bit better.
Now 2,5 weeks later, I’m still sick, it’s still that damn flu. There have been tests done in the hospital to check my blood but everything came back with good results. It now turns out that this damn flu can last for about 2-3 weeks. Which is just my luck; some people are sick for 2-3 DAYS and for me it lasts a ‘little’ longer. I have to say I don’t feel sick to my stomach anymore and my muscles aren’t aching, but I still have a lot of trouble breathing. Everything I do wears me out and I have to stop to catch my breath, even making a cup of tea seems too much to do still. So for now, I just keep myself calm, laying in bed or on the sofa watching TV and sometimes doing a little surfing online.
I just hope I feel good enough to get back to work soon, as I hate being at home sick, not being able to do anything. I’m more of a ‘keep busy’ kind of person always doing something, even when I’m not working I always seem to find something to keep my occupied…
