Moving “Home”

This week has been even more hectic than usual. I have worked a lot of overtime this week due to unforeseen (and rather unwanted) changes and happenings. Last weekend, the building I work at burned down. So because of that we had to move to a different location. I have to hand it to my bosses for setting up things within 24 hours so we could all get back to work the next day.

Of course things had to be cleaned and set up again which meant a little extra work. That, and the vacation season meant working overtime. Not that I mind, it just meant even less spare time than I already had this past week. Things are set up now though and from the looks of it, this is going to be our new home.

The moving ‘home’ comes with a few more adjustments, like I have to wear business casual from now on instead of jeans and Birkenstocks. Which meant more work for me, I’ve spend today washing, ironing and shortening dress pants and blouses so I can wear them to work this week. Luckily I didn’t really have to go out to buy new stuff (although I did as I felt I needed something new ;) ) unlike some of my co-workers.

So all in all it has been a very busy and strange week. What I have called work ‘home’ for the past years will be the past. I will probably never go back there to work. It’s strange, you go away for the weekend, thinking you’ll be back on the same spot on Monday, but instead you’re going to a new building, a new area with other people you don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, change can be good, but it’s just weird.

The thing I’m really grateful for though is that no one got hurt. No one was inside at the time of the fire, which would have been a very real possibility. And I guess that’s all that matters, the rest is all material damage.

Wow. It burnt down. That could not have been any fun! But I’m relieved that no one got hurt.
I think dressing up (mostly the ironing) is such a pain but I actually really like it. :) Maybe you can post pics of your business casual attires every so often?

Oh my! I’m glad no one was hurt. But I must admit, these days I would love some overtime pay. I’m sure you’ll find a nice use for it. ;)

At least no one was there, though it’s also good to know that you were able to get back to work pretty quickly – not too much was lost that it caused more damage. I’m thinking the same as Felisa. There’s a confinement aspect to dressing up but it makes you feel professional.
