New Looks
I have to admit that it’s about time that I got off my ass and did something about the site. This layout is based on the Dailypress theme by blogohblog.com but I have not used any of their images or coding. I liked the set-up of the layout but build it from scratch myself and changed quite a few things around. Actually, looking at it now it doesn’t look the same at all, although there are a few similarities.
The layout still has to grow on me; pink is generally not my thing. But so far I like it. I’m in the middle of tweaking things though so you might still find a few errors here and there. The best thing about it, is that I learned a few new things with CSS
.
What do you think of the layout? Suggestions about changes are always welcome!
EDIT: Thank you all for the input, keep it coming. I now have fixed the text / input areas as well as added some butterflies around the search box. The image there is not perfect yet, I still have to tweak it a bit. But I hope it fills up the empty spaces in that area.

You guys are quicker than me!
I was in the middle of changing Jessica’s points regarding the text and input areas!
Can you tell me what resolutions you are using so I can see what’s needed to make the header look more filled up?
I think I’m on 1280×800, so a widescreen. I’d reduce the height of the header perhaps, and maybe even move the tagline to the right, rather than the left.
I’m using the same resolution as Amanda. Reducing the height of the header might be a good idea. You could move the tagline to directly underneath the site name (rather than underneath the butterfly) and cut the header image off directly under the butterfly’s legs — that should save at least 50px. To shorten it any more than that, you’d have to shrink the butterfly, and I think I like its largeness.
I’m not sure moving the tagline to the right is a good idea — at least, it seems to me that it would still be unbalanced. The tagline is smaller than the butterfly and site name, and shaped differently as well. Perhaps a tall image to the right side would work?
I hope I’m being helpful.
I’m the worst for downloading a theme and tweaking it until it fits my site, I can’t remember the last time that I coded a theme from scratch.
The only suggestion that I have is that the search box looks a bit boring up there in the corner – like Jessica said it’d look better if it look like it was part of the design with little butterflies around it or something similar!
I actually quite like it. I usually don’t like pink on blogs because it usually gives me a headache! But your new layout is simple enough that it doesn’t make me feel dizzy. I like what you’ve done with the butterflies around the search engine but maybe you can omit one or two of them to make it less busy?? Just a suggestion. It’s totally up to you.
It’s fine the way that it is but I feel like it might look more polished with less butterflies or smaller butterflies or something like that.

I like the general look of it, and the colours. The main suggestion I have is to change the colour of the text in the input/textareas – it’s currently white on light grey!
The other thing is that the header is REALLY tall, and (since I have a wide resolution) it looks kind of empty to the right-hand side. Perhaps some pink decorative images around the search box (butterflies? flowers? I don’t know what…) would help even it out.
I really like the colours, though. The grey and pink go well together.
