Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Because October is NBCAM I decided to kick off this month with a post about Pink Ribbon, an organisation that raises awareness for breast cancer around the world. One in nine (some sites say one in eight) women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and even though I don’t feel it’s ‘worse’ than any other type of cancer, because it’s all just as horrible, after the age of 30 it’s the number one common cancer amongst women. Take an average group of friends and 1 in 9 of those friends will get breast cancer and will potentially die of it (according to the Dutch Pink Ribbon site women have a survival rate of 85 % after 5 years…)
Pink Ribbon is very active during October, they come up with special ads on TV to teach people about breast cancer and they want to reach as many people as possible. Because I really support this and I think it’s always good to raise awareness for terrible diseases like this I decided to join in on Pink Ribbon by adding the Pink Ribbon application to my Facebook and buying this beautiful bracelet. All profits from this bracelet and many more products in the Pink Ribbon store will go to Pink Ribbon.

Breast cancer used to be a devastating death sentence for people but thanks to raising awareness about it and the large sum of donations breast cancer research has received, most women (and men) who develop it are able to live long and normal lives.
Anyway, I’ve been seeing lots of Breast Cancer Awareness posts in different blogs and I’m really pleased by how diverse people (bloggers from different countries) all understand the importance of raising breast cancer awareness and raising money for breast cancer research.

It’s such a worthwhile cause..
Australians are very big into breast cancer awareness and research – the first of every month is breast check day, all the major companies have special pink products during October for breast cancer awareness, etc.
