Archives
I never thought I would say this; generally I hate paperwork. But I love archives. I don’t mean blog archives (although it’s fun to read back certain entries from some people I know) but I mean birth, marriage and death archives from back in the day.
What’s even cooler is that most of them are online at the moment, you can just go to certain websites and search for ancestors to look up dates and connections with others. It really is addicting. I find it amazing to see how families are tied together by a single marriage, and it’s fun to find out what families are all tied into your own.
I’ve been looking into the familie and ancestors of both my parents, it’s a matter of comparing, eliminating and trying different ways of spelling names. There are so many ways to spell one’s name, and in the old archives (back in 1800) they liked to write it down however they wanted. One person can be listed in the same archive for birth and marriage but with a different spelling. Frustrating and funny at the same time.
There is one downside to it though, I’ve got sucked into the research and because of it I’ve been neglecting my dailies. I’m really sorry to miss out on all your ramblings and totally randomness but I hope to be able to catch up with it all over the weekend. I still love you all though and have not forgotten about you!

My uncle did that for me about six years ago, and retraced all my family history. I must say that I find it absolutely fascinating; to see all those names of people related to me, who don’t know me, and whom I’ll probably never know.
Have fun still researching.
I’m really interested in tracing my geneology too, but don’t know where to start!! Any (free or very low cost) ancestry sites that you’ve found to be good? (If it helps, I’m from the UK).

I love finding out stuff about my genealogy, too. But it’s harder to find the records for my Dad’s family! They’re Chinese and I think they changed their last name when they moved to different places. I don’t even think they kept records… and if they did, they’re probably written in Chinese!
