International Women’s Day

Yesterday was International Women’s Day. I didn’t think of it until I got to work and some of my (female) colleagues had arranged something special for all female employees. We all got a rose, some chocolate and popcorn and the guys? They got nothing…

It was really nice of my colleagues to think of it and arrange something for all of us. It really made my day and the white rose I received is now standing proudly in a beautiful vase on my coffee table.

IWD is now an official holiday in Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother’s Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

As you can see it even is an official holiday in some countries. I think it’s nice there is a day to celebrate the woman, and recognize and appreciate us as equals to man.

Oh I haven’t been by here for a while! Hm, I don’t think anyone here was aware that it was IWD. If they did I didn’t get anything!

I think it’s great to celebrate women, we’re just as important as men in this world, and yet women have been so unappreciated throughout the ages. I think it’s about time men started making amends :-P

I didn’t even know there was a IWD. It seems that each and every thing/theme/ism has it’s own day these days. I wonder when there will be a Internation And Official Celebration Of Nan The Awesome Day.

Like Nan, I had no idea that there was an International Women’s Day. So, no, I didn’t celebrate it in anyway nor did I receive anything for it.
