The Quilting Bee
Last year I participated in the QBee Blog day, so this year I will too. This means that today I’ll be writing about The Quilting Bee.
The Quilting Bee is an online club of people who pixel draw a patch to trade with other members of the club to build up their own quilt of different patches. It sounds like a simple concept and it really is. But The Quilting Bee is so much more, it’s a great way to meet other people online and make new friends. There are other activities for special occasions such as the Christmas Activity that’s going on right now. You pixel (or if you’re like me; attempt to pixel) a Christmas gift you can than trade with others who are participating in the activity.
The biggest misunderstanding of the club is that it’s elite. That’s far from true, no one in The QBee is elite. Not everyone of us can pixel very well. I, for one, can’t pixel if my life depended on it but I try my best and things turn out semi-OK most of the time. There is no one who will laugh at your (non-existing) pixel skills.
Jem is the Queen of the bee, which just means she’s in charge of things, along with Charlotte. They took over the club from Kimberly who retired last year to spend more time with her family and have more time for other things in life. With that said I have to admit that all Queens so far have been very nice and are easy to talk to, although some of the members seem a bit weary about talking to the Queens. I don’t have a clue why, because non of them is intimidating, scary or mean. They’re friendly and always there to help of you need them.
I’ve been a member of the QBee for over four years. I joined on November 23, 2002. I’ve made many friends through the club and meet new people all the time. Why don’t you check it out yourself? Or the BBS, the QBee Forums. Always a great place to hang out!
If you’d like to see what a Quilt could look like, come and see mine. I hope to see you all at The QBee soon. And remember; we’re not elite and you don’t have to be the best pixel drawer in the world to be able to join!

It’s a virtual quilt Hannah so it’s not done the old fashioned way. When you ‘sow’ on a patch it just means you add it to your list of other patches on your website
I’m doing well thanks! I hope you’re alright yourself too!
I remember hearing about The Quilting Bee awhile back, but I had no idea it was still around and very much alive! I’ve never been interested, simply because I don’t have time. Although, it sounds fun =D
I have been working on my quilt patch for about two weeks now. I have always known about the TQB, but never took the time to join. I for one am not the best pixel artist either, but I give it my all.
I was going to join up, I looked at the rules which told me to go to the site requirements but then.. I couldn’t seem to find them in the menu. Nor decipher what the pixel text said in the navigation. So I gave up.
=P

Sounds like a lot of fun! I’m not much of a quilter, but my Grandma *loves* it, and she makes it seem like a lot of fun. I may have to join one of these days… maybe.
Hope you are doing well! It has been quite a while since I have visited. So sorry about that!
