World AIDS Day
Today is World AIDS Day. In my previous post I mentioned The Great Divide, a song that is available on Itunes. All proceeds (yes that’s 100%) of the sale of this song, as well as the sale of a T shirt will go to the Perinatal HIV Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa (http://www.hivsa.com).
The song costs 99 cents, and it’s a simple way to make a difference in a world that is so divided. If you can’t afford to spend 99 cents you can still make a difference by passing the word around by posting in your blog about it, sending people the e-card or show them the video to make them aware of the problem and show them how they can help.
AIDS is the number one cause of death in Africa, there were 2 million AIDS deaths in Africa in 2005 and 14 million AIDS orphans in the same year. There will by 25 million AIDS orphans by 2010 in Africa.
I’m aware that AIDS is a global issue, but in most countries we live in there is medication and treatment. In other words, there is some form of help. All there is in Africa is hope, as they say there; NGI NE THEMBA; I have hope.
Myself? I have hope too, hope that together we can help them, by doing something as simple as downloading a song. Something a lot of us do on a daily basis. So give them a chance, make a difference, and spend that 99 cents on a worthy cause!
I would like to thank those who downloaded the song, passed on the video and / or e-card, ordered a T shirt or helped in any other way.
Together we can conquer this great divide

I want to contribute. Those people need all that they can get.I think people in Africa should be the first priority. The money should be spent on them before anyone. In the first place they didn’t know about the illness and now children are born with it and they obviously have no choice.
I don’t however feel sorry at all for those who know about it, know the dangers, know the risks and are sexual promiscuous anyway then want sympathy when they contract the disease. I know I’m no one to say who deserves what but in my opinion they don’t deserve help. Why should taxes and donations go to the irresponsible and reckless?
They should go to those who really need it.
I’ve been trying to get my school to do something but it really doesn’t look like they are going to. Apparently by having two non-uniforms we have had too many already (and they are the biggest, easier, funraiser a school can do incidentally). So I’m struggling for ideas; I want to do something a little bigger than just buying the song. I like to feel that I am doing something.
I always contribute to those things when it’s on tv, when they are putting up a show for it. But I can’t help but wondering if the money really goes to a good cause since you never see a difference no matter how much money everyone raise…
That’s why Chans and I will donate some money we already had, straight to a research hospital in Africa.
Then we ‘know’ our money will get in good hands…well you know what I mean hehe
[...] And if you can’t miss 99 cents for this download please help out by spreading the word about it. Through your website, forums, emails, the official e-card and video or any other way you can think of. Some of you have already quoted me, that’s wonderful and thank you so much for that! If anybody else wants to quote me, please use this, this or the current post to quote from. [...]

One thing I’ve noticed by coming here often is that you’re such a caring person, Chans. By reading your posts and rants, I’ve realised you care about so many things! From AIDS victims to horses, and it’s so refreshing to see someone whose attitude is “the glass is half full” instead of “the glass is half empty”. I bought the song, and even though its not of my musical taste, it was for a good cause.
