Writing a Novel

After writing short stories and poetry for years (not everything is published here, maybe it will be in the future) it’s now time for a big step forward. Or backwards if I fail at this.

One of my friends, May, read a few short stories a few weeks back and told me I should start writing a book. At that time I laughed it off, after all writing a book is not something you do overnight. But in the back of my head the idea lingered and the plot started to take form. I thought that maybe some day I could have a go with it. And you know how those ‘One day I’ll..‘ thoughts go. They usually end up not being followed through.

Well, this one is! After reading Jem‘s latest entry, where she talked about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) I decided to do something with my idea and go for it. Before reading Jem’s blog I never heard of NaNoWriMo but since I read it it kind of got stuck in my head and suddenly it made sense. I have a plot and then there is NaNoWriMo so why not combine it and see if I can get this novel written.

For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is. It’s a way for (wannabe) writers to try and write a novel in 30 days. It starts on November 1, 2006 at 12:00:01 AM and ends at 11:59:59 PM November 30, 2006. The goal is to write a novel with a minimum of 50,000 words (175 pages) before the end of the month.

There is nothing to lose and nothing to gain (other than an official “Winner” web icon and certificate if you get the 50,000 words written) so why not go for it?

Sounds like a lot of fun, bBut a lot of hard work too! Sometimes I wish I could be a good writer, but I know I’m not. haha.

Good luck with your novel. Hope everything is going well for you!! :)

Ohmygod! I’m totally on there also *squeal*. Haha. No, really… I’m going to hunt you down now and add you as my buddy *cough*

Good luck! I’m participating also with the story you can see on my blog. I’m probably going to just use that idea though; it’s sort of cheating when you have 5000 words already!

I’m a NaNo participant, too! I’m terrified of starting because I still don’t have an idea on what I want to write. Okay, I lie – I do have an idea, but I’m starting to doubt that decision now. Heh. I’m weird like that.

Last year I wrote over 30,000 words in that month. Not exactly what I was going for, but still 30,000!

Good luck with your idea and like Amber, I’m going to add you on NaNo, too. :D

I’m doing NaNoWriMo, as well. I managed to win last year, but we’ll see how this year goes considering I have more assignments this year.

You should enter! And if that’s the case – good luck! I’ll never have the patience, haha :| beside my grammar/english sucks :(

I don’t have the patience to write, but if you enter good luck!!

I’ll root for you. :)
