Beading Jewelry

Besides the book challenge, my crochet work, my social life (yes I really do have one) and all the other projects I’m working on, I now have a new thing that’s keeping me busy; making my own beaded jewelry.

I made some pearl earrings yesterday, which are fairly simple, and started on some more complex danglers. Unfortunately the first bead broke while I was adding the dangles and I had to start over again. Since the first bead needed replacing I had to take all the beads off the thread and do it all again. However the first earring is now nearly finished. It takes an experienced person about thirty five minutes to make one earring so it will take me, as a novice, much longer. Since it’s quiet frustrating at times when the thread doesn’t go through the beads so easily anymore I wanted another project to work on besides the earrings.

The latest project is a square stitch tube necklace. Even though I just started on it I’m already in love with the way it looks. It actually looks as if it’s made of little crystals instead of glass beads. Photos will be up later!

Some people might think it’s weird that I like ‘boring’ stuff such as reading, writing, crochet and making beaded jewelry. Quiet frankly I really don’t care. I feel relaxed doing these things.

Do you do anything that might be considered boring or old-fashioned?

I read. Hey, that’s pretty old-fashioned in today’s digital age isn’t it? :P

I write, read and draw. And I don’t think they’re boring hobbies at all. (Duh, otherwise I wouldn’t spend my precious time on them!!) :P

Try coating your thread with “Thread Heaven” bead wax so the thread will go through the beads more smoothly. The most old-fashioned thing I do is take photos with a manual film camera. Some people give me a hard time for that!

Okay, reading and writing are definitely not boring! I spend a lot of time on both, actually. There’s just something about stepping into a world that’s not your own that appeals to me. Especially if that world has vampires and stuff. :) *is geek*
