Speeding Ticket
After reading a topic on a Dutch forum (you can read it here, or attempt to read it) it got me thinking about the way the police is perceived by many people these days.
This topic was about a girl getting a speeding ticket for going 3 km/h too fast. I don’t know how it is in other countries but in Holland they measure your speed and deduct a certain number off it because they use equipment which can cause a margin. Anyway, she is giving off on the police for giving her the ticket and quiet a few people agree with her.
The most heard arguments are; they don’t have anything better to do or they should go catch some bad guys.
It bothers me that people always have to point at someone instead of admitting their own mistakes. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes but take responsibility and learn from it. I’m no saint, I have had tickets before and the only one I can blame is me. I’m the one controlling the gas pedal not anyone else. It sucks if it’s ‘only’ 3 km/h too fast but that means you were driving at least 5 km/h too fast due to the margin.
The police are easy to blame for your own mistakes and shortcomings. After all there will always be people like you, who can’t handle the consequences of their own actions and agree with you.
Policemen (and women) are just doing their jobs, one of them is making the roads safer for anyone and by law there is a speeding limit. So everyone passing the limit is going to get fined. Everyone knows, but as soon as they break the rule it’s everyone else’s fault but their’s. What happens if you get into an accident while speeding 3 km/h? The collision will be harder and the damage will be bigger. It’s not only for your own safety but for everyone else’s too.
Honestly I don’t think I’ll ever understand why someone would give off on the police forgetting a speeding ticket. Surely it sucks to get one, but it’s a price you got to pay for breaking the law (and that’s what you’re doing).
So suck it up and deal with it; if you don’t want to get fined, don’t break the law.

@Laarni: But fines don’t go to police/traffic enforcers. They go the government/road company, and the money generally goes back into improving the roads that we travel on every day. Isn’t that a good thing?
They are merely doing what’s in their job description; law enforcement, amongst other things. And there are laws regarding the speed limits so if you break the limit and therefor the law they will have to fine.
It has nothing to do with wanting money, they don’t get anything from it, they only get their salary just like everyone else. Like Amanda said, the money goes back into rod improvement and things like that.
I have just come across this website for the first time, and I want to thank you for this entry. You have put so perfectly what I have always been thinking. Thank you!

it just sometimes some police or traffic enforcers give fine because they want money.
