Bye Bye World Cup

Shit, we’re out of the World Cup. For those of you who haven’t seen the match Portugal – The Netherlands, make sure you read the papers tomorrow or something as this will be a match that will be talked about for a long time.

The referee gave out 17 yellow and 4 red cards during this match. That has never happened in a World Cup match in history; EVER. Honestly I think this referee is better off as a poker player so he can play with cards all the time.
Truth be said, some cards were deserved. Although if you look at the red card that sent Boulahrouz off the field it wasn’t deserved at all. Figo, who just a few minutes earlier only got a yellow card (while such a thing deserves red) for a head-butt on a van Bommel behind the referee’s back, pretended he got struck in the face be Boulahrouz (while nothing happened, Figo decided on dirty play to keep the ball).

The referee completely lost control of everything, there was a lot of shoving, pushing and intimidating at some points. If I’m correct someone from FIFA even said the referee deserved a red or yellow card himself ;) .

Life goes on even after the World Cup, we’re not the only great team that gets send home. Mexico had to go home as well and they sure played well. The only thing I hope is that Portugal will get a one way ticket back to Portugal after the match against England. Preferably with a 5 – 0 score at full time in the advantage of England. And let’s not forget most of the Portuguese A team is on sharp too with all those yellow cards.

For now I’m putting my hope on Guus Hiddink, the Dutch trainer of the Australian national team. Guus is as close as The Netherlands can get to winning the World Cup.
As they say;

No Guus, no glory

Anyway, I’m sorry to hear about the game, I must buy a newspaper today and read about it…sounds shocking.

Go Aussies!

Yes Amanda I’m quoting you hehe, and now I’ve fixed it so it’s obvious I’m quoting you ;) don’t you feel special now?!

Giselle, it’s sad we didn’t make it to the next round but hey, life goes on. The game itself was rough though I seriously thought people would get beat up for real.

Heh. I watched the game and it was really exciting (as a spectator with no links to either of the teams). I hope we can give Portugal a bit of pay back for knocking us undeservedly out of Euro 2004. And Figo deserved to get sent off. Lets hope we can kick their butts for you Chans :) . Personally, I think we’re getting kicked out again…
