Leg Anyone?

When I read this I suddenly felt very sad. It’s sad enough if someone has to sell something they own to be able to pay for something else they really need. Especially if it’s to pay for something that relates to health. But it’s even more sad when that thing you want (or rather, need) to sell is a body part.

For those of you who haven’t read the article; it’s about a man in New Zealand putting his amputated leg up for auction on a website to hopefully raise enough money to cover his debts and for his daughter who suffers from diabetes.
Some of you might think it’s morbid, and yes it probably is. But isn’t it more sad than morbid?

A lot (if not most or all) countries have citizens with (big) debts. Some have debts because they just can’t deal with money well, even teenagers these days already have big debts before they reach the age of eighteen. Many of the people in debt though, are in it because governments have been cutting in benefits. Not to mention prices for food and things like that keep rising.

However it seems that most governments have some sort of imaginary vault where they keep real money for certain things. There are budgets for everything and that’s of course pretty understandable but maybe priorities should be straightened out for a change. For instance, we have something called ‘The Betuwelijn‘ which costs more than the budget they had for it. I’m not sure if it’s finished now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t.
So this can costs millions, but the people in the homes for elderly suffer, there isn’t enough staff to help them, everything has to be done quick and sometimes they hardly get the time to eat their dinner. You can’t blame the staff for it, it’s all in the money and the budget that’s granted them by governments.
There are so many examples, but I don’t think anything will change until the ones pulling the budget strings are in the same situation as your average Joe.

And until that day, we will hear sad stories like Shane Torrance’s.

I’ve also been to Euro Disney, half a year before I have really been INTO Paris. Paris as a city is so wonderful … I’ll surely go there again.
Plugs: I deleted the manual plugs, I just was too tired to add that I planned that :-) Edited the entry for that.

Ouch … what an article … it reminds us how close rich and really poor people live together, in countried where you could think everyone should have enough money for life.
What exactly is “The Betuwelijn”? Never heard of that before.

yeah…my font is weird because you use firefox. i use ie, & on my site i have “ie only” on there because i got so many complaints about it. i figure if it looks good to me, that’s all that matters, you know? i can’t really change it because i’d have no idea what it’d look like haha :)

that’s really upsetting though. i heard something about how body parts are really on the black market & everything. it’s sad :\

Yeah, it is sad to hear stuff like that. I agree that the government waste a lot of money on some pointless things, and need their priorities sorting out. Easier said than done, however.

Melia: My view on this is that a website owner should cater for his / her visitors which also includes cross browser compatibility. Besides if you have so many complaints about it, that means so many of your visitors use Fx and might not come back because your blog (and the rest) is near impossible to read

awe, I think that’s really sad. But the ecnomy is getting so bad everywhere, that it seems like the world will might as well collapse.
But that is really sad :(
