Lost or Salvation?
Honestly I never expected this and hopefully it was a single accident that doesn’t happen again. Not only because I don’t want people to bother me with it but also because I don’t want any strangers on the property. It sure makes you wonder if they are using new tactics these days.
By now I probably got you wondering about what happened. Well, I went down to my parents’ house today because they were both away and they asked me to let the dog out for a bit. When I wanted to let the dog in, he walked away toward the gate that gives access to the property. I had heard the gate but since it was rather windy I figured it was the wind. Obviously it wasn’t.
A man came around the back and asked for a house number. For some strange reason though, that house number doesn’t exist in our street. Let’s say I was at number 3, he was looking for number 5 and next door is number 7. Well number 5 just doesn’t exist it jumps from 3 to 7. So I told this man (who was carrying a briefcase so I figured he had an appointment with someone supposedly living at number 5) the number doesn’t exist. On which he replied asking if I was from number 3 then. He proceeded to get a little book out of his coat pocket and without even looking at it I knew what he was trying to do. Yes you guessed it, he is a Jehovah’s Witness. I told him I wasn’t interested and he left straight away.
I’ve had Jehovah’s Witnesses at my door before, and when I tell them I’m not interested they usually go away, but some are very pushy and won’t leave. Whenever that happens I just close the door. Sorry, but not interested means not interested, so stop rambling.
Now, I don’t have anything against religious people. However I do have something against people (religious or not) forcing their believes and opinions onto other people. After all it’s common sense to stop talking and / or go away when someone says ‘not interested’. So why is it that some Jehovah’s Witnesses can’t seem to understand that? Some even continue talking to a closed door. Are they so passionate about what they preach that even closed doors need salvation?
Maybe that man really was looking for number 5 and accidently walked onto our property. But since the gate is located next to our house and the path coming from it is actually going to the back door, I can’t see how he could have made that mistake. Down here it’s pretty common to go around the back if you’re visiting friends or family. But if you’re going to see someone you don’t know at all you use the front door.
Either way I’m not waiting until the next stranger makes it all the way into the living room. It’s time for a bigger lock on that gate.

Like yourself, I respect religion but hate people trying to force it onto me (or others). Like that time this guy sat down next to me at the bus stop and started talking to me about Jesus. I put him off by telling him I was a pagan witch who did naked rituals in her backyard which involved the slaughter of small animals. He got up and left.
I’ve become a pro at talking with JW’s, because they happen to come to my door all the bloody time. People tell me just to slam the door, but I don’t usually like doing that because they ARE nice people and I’ve known other Jehovah’s Witnesses before. I just tell them that I have my own church (because I do) and that I do all my religious works through it, and that isually works out alright.
Sometimes I wonder how they feel about it, because personally I wouldn’t enjoy going around doing that kind of work. But they’re just trying to expand their church and all, which isn’t easy, so I do try to respect them.
well its either he purposely wants to interest you with the religion OR somebody pointed your house or something which is why your example of “5″ is not around.
he’s really creepy but anyway dont mind him :]

That… is pretty scary. Having a complete stranger wonder onto your property? Geez…
I agree, though. I really don’t have a problem with people who are passionate about their religious beliefs, but those who try to enfore it upon others are ignorant in my opinion. I respect those who are passionate AND open-minded enough to see that not all people will believe what they do… those who are blind enough to preach to closed doors– well, that’s another story.
I agree, though… a bigger lock is in order.
