QBee Blog Day
So today is QBee Blog Day. Which basically means everyone in the QBee is writing something about The QBee Quilt in their blogs. So let me start from the beginning. The QBee Quilt is a pixeling club which involves trading patches (which you will find on a quilt, therefor it’s called the QBee Quilt). It started in February 2000 and was Guruubii‘s idea. It’s an online “club” to make new friends, and trading patches is the way to do it. Every member creates their own 40 x 40 pixels patch that can be added to everyone’s quilt once traded. You can find my current patch for trading a bit more down this entry.
Personally I’ve been a member of the QBee Quilt since November 2002. Ofcourse as with any club, the QBee has some rules that need to be followed to make things run smoothly. One of them is that every member has to trade twice a month. Which, considering the amount of members The QBee has, isn’t much at all. At one point, due to my lack of trading I was about to be removed from The QBee. Luckily I figured it out in time and emailed the Queen Bee (the person who runs the QBee) who gave me my spot on the members list back and I have been a very active members ever since. Actually, right now I’m a so called Worker Bee, which basically means I’m in charge of checking 25 sites once a month to see if everyone is trading enough.
You probably wonder what’s up with all those titles, Queen Bee, Worker Bee, Honey Bee, and Bumble Bee, well basically they are just titles to name the people who are in charge of certain things to help run the QBee smoothly. The Queen Bee is, like I already said, the person running the QBee. Right now that’s Kimberly. Worker Bees check 25 sites each to check on things like missing quilts and dead links, Honey Bees help vote yes / no on pending members and Bumble Bees are members who have donated graphics that can be added to your quilt. I have to say that even though there are a few different titles, I haven’t noticed anyone thinking they are better than the members with no title (the Bees) and that’s the way it should be(e). Every member can apply for any of these titles (except the Queen Bee title) and that’s how I got mine. I applied to be a Worker Bee and I eventually got chosen to become one, and I donated graphics which are now up on the QBee Quilt site and made me a Bumble Bee.
All this might sound strange to some of you, but what it basically comes down to is having a lot of fun and making new friends from all around the world. And that’s what I’ve done over the years. I’ve made many new friends from all around the world and through making my patch for trading I learned how to pixel. Not that you have to be great at pixeling to join! I’m not great at pixeling and (to let you in on a “secret”) I usually use tutorials to learn how to pixel and draw certain things. Right now I’m learning how to do free hand drawings but I still use tutorials most of the time when I need to make something.
Making friends is not only done by trading but also (and mostly) by keeping in touch with the members you traded with and joining the Forums for QBee Members and their Chatroom. So if you like to make new friends, like to pixel or would like to learn how to pixel. The QBee is a great way to do that. Yes I said learn to pixel, because, even though you have to pixel your own patches, there is a Pixel Academy for members where our lovely Queen Bee gives classes to improve your pixel skills…
If all this sounds like fun, why don’t you join us then? It’s absolutely free and I’m sure you will really enjoy your time at the QBee!!! To see some things I’ve made over the years, check out these patches below. That Butterfly at the beginning of this entry is something I pixeled as well, the inside anyway, the outline was put up for the Butterfly Activity by Kimberly.

Ooh before I go I should add that we also have special activities now and then. Which involve making special (small) pixel images you can trade, or give away to other members. Our Winter Event will start soon so if you want to get in on the fun, join us and get involved. If you want to see My Quilt and also the activities I participated in please go to My Quilt.
That’s it for now dropsticks, more later x
