Weeks Before Christmas

Photography by Chantal van den Broek - First Snow of the SeasonI always knew that the days (well weeks) before the holidays were really busy but I’ve never been so busy the weeks before Christmas as I am now. First there is mom’s shoulder surgery which she had 2 weeks ago. The recovery period is about 4 – 6 months so I have to do most of the things around the house like washing clothes, cooking, ironing, grocery shopping etc. Ofcourse Dad helps and Niki does too when she’s around. Not that I mind doing it, if it helps mom out I don’t really care but if that was the only things I have to do it wouldn’t be so bad. Since it’s coming close(r) to Christmas I had to write loads of Christmas cards, especially this year, as we’re doing a Christmas card exchange with fans from all around the world. Most of them need to go abroad so I do need to send them early. I just send out the first batch last Monday…

If that isn’t enough to do already I just got 2 new clients. They both have a company and they want me to make their website for them. And as they are paying customers I can’t let them wait for weeks before they see any results. It’s good to have extra clients though, because who knows, maybe they tell some friends or family what a good (or not hehe) job I did on their sites which might make them consider getting one done as well or they mention it to someone else again who contacts me for it.

I really don’t mind doing most of the things mentioned above though, it’s all (well mostly) in good fun. But I seriously have to calculate some ‘me-time’ into the schedule every day or I will go crazy. Resting is pretty important for me, with my arthritis and this current cold weather we’re having. We had about 10 cm of snow over the weekend and the weather really got to me, but since I have to help out my parents with the house work I don’t really want to complain, so I bite my tongue and do the work. Don’t get me wrong, if I say I’m in pain they don’t ask me to do all that stuff for them, but dad works hard all week too and I just know he’s going to do it all by himself then and I don’t want him doing that. He works hard enough already!

So basically I have been busy from 8 AM until I go to work at 5.30 PM with the necessary ‘me-time’ every day and then I’m at work at night doing at least 30 minutes to an hour over time every day. Which means I hardly had time to update here, and when I have a free moment I really just want to lay down, read a book or do nothing at all. So for now you will just have to put up with a once a week entry here, until things start to calm down..

That’s it for now, later dropsticks x

hmmm, it’s nice of you to do things for your mom while shes recovering. i would have been a lot more difficult to convince, so i hope i was more like you in dealing with situations like that
