French Fries
I hope everyone has had a good Halloween!! Like I said in my previous blog, we don’t celebrate Halloween in The Netherlands as it’s celebrated in the US but over the past few years in the bigger cities they’ve been organizing Trick or Treat groups for little kids to go Trick or Treating. I personally think that they are milking the whole Halloween thing as they do with Valentine’s day. It’s gotten too commercialized in my eyes so I won’t celebrate it (sure it’s fun to get a card on Valentine’s day but surely you can tell someone you love him / her any day of the year!). So for those who celebrated Halloween, I hope you had a good one!
Something tells me this entry isn’t going to be very interesting this time. The first clue would be the title of the entry lol. I mean come on a blog about French Fries? I didn’t know what else to name this entry as I don’t have much to say at the moment. Nothing happened since Monday really, other then buying some necessities yesterday at an Action store.. So I thought I’d let everyone know I’m making home made (and therefor -fresh- ) French Fries. For those of you who want to try it at home yourself here’s the recipe:
First of all, if you’re a younger reader (ha yeah I have readers, like a real magazine hehe) be sure to have an adult to help you make this as it involves hot oil and such which is dangerous!
Things you need:
- Big potatoes
- Peanut or Vegetable Oil
- A big pan or a deep fryer
- Water
- Salt
How to make it:
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into French Fries shape
- Put them in a pan filled with water
- Put some salt in the pan with water and the fries and leave them for 30 minutes (this is to prevent the fries from sticking together when they get fried)
- After 30 minutes rinse the fries and meanwhile heat up the oil (in a pan or deep fryer) to about 150 C
- Fry the Fries in batches and dry the fries before you put them into the oil so they are no longer wet, fry them for about 7-8 minutes
- After all the fries are done, you can either keep them until dinner time before you fry them again or do it straight away. You fry them at 180 C for a few minutes until they look golden brown.
- Serve and enjoy!!
I love home made French Fries, they are a lot better then the once you can get in the store (like McDonalds) or the ones you buy at a supermarket to keep in your freezer. Besides it only takes about 45 minutes in total to make them. I usually make them in the morning and fry them at 180 C at dinner time.
Well that’s it for today, I don’t have much more to tell right now. Enjoy the French Fries if you decide to give it a try. Later dropsticks x
