Admittance And Discharge

For those of you who haven’t been following my twitter; on Thursday morning I was admitted to hospital after visiting my GP with ongoing complaints about not being able to breathe.

This was my 4th week with these complaints (coming from the H1N1 flu) and on Thursday morning my oxygen saturation in my blood was so low that my GP wanted me to visit a specialist in hospital. After arriving there I had to do some tests immediately, placed ahead in waiting queues at the blood draw and the x-ray areas.

Within an hour, hour and a half after visiting my GP I was admitted to the hospital with a potential pulmonary embolism (a blood cloth in a vain in the lungs) and placed on the “Immediate Admittance” department of the hospital and received oxygen to get my saturation up. I had to stay over night and had scans and ultra sounds done to see if they could locate the embolism.

Fortunately they didn’t find any cloths, and now they think it was a very very bad hyperventilation attack (which I never had before) started by the swine flu. After 2 days on oxygen I was discharged from the hospital. I have to learn breathing techniques to get back to my normal breathing routine. The reason they spoke of pulmonary embolism is because the symptomes of a very bad hyperventilation attack and an embolism are exactly the same.

I’m very glad it wasn’t as bad as they thought it was, but I have to admit I haven’t been as scared in my life as the past to days. The swine flu gave me a good run around and I’m not 100 % better yet, even though my saturation is up to normal and I’m not gasping for air anymore I still have chest pains, headaches and dizzy spells.

Thanks for everyone’s well wishes over the past few days (and of course the past few weeks). I really appreciate it and it’s nice to know that people you online know from on line care about you :)

Liefs,
Saar

I’m delayed (having just discovered your site!), but I hope you’re feeling better. :) While I rarely get sick, I’m also one of those people who, when they get sick, gets sick for weeks when everyone else is only sick for a few days. :/
