Mother’s Day
Not only was it a special day for my mother today as it is Mother’s Day in The Netherlands (like in so many other countries around the world) but it also was a very special day for a mother living close by.
My parents have two Great Tits nesting in their garden, even though it’s a little early in the year. Today during our Mother’s Day BBQ we heard a lot of squeaking. When we looked around we noticed the commotion was coming from the nesting box.
Looking a little closer we noticed that the bird sitting outside the box wasn’t one of the parents but one of the little ones!
It was very cute to watch the bird trying to fly (and he didn’t fall!), but we didn’t see it actually leaving the nest, we just noticed him when he was already outside. Us missing the bird leaving the nest was greatly compensated when about 4 or 5 other birds left the nest, flying for the first time.
Luckily I had my camera at hand and I was able to make a few shots of the youngsters leaving the house. It must be a very special day for mother bird too, as now her kids has left the house and she and her hubby are down to just the two of them.
I never saw a bird leaving the nest, but it was a beautiful sight and I hope to see the proud parents again next year when they hopefully return to the nesting box.

@ Silent butterfly very cute indeed . I take it that your parents don’t have any pet cats !
Of course I’m the only one who thinks it’s funny these birds are called Great Tits
Anyway, happy mother’s day to your mom!
