Fabchannel.com

I’m sad, very sad, to announce that Fabchannel.com is no longer ‘with us’. Yes the domain still exist but the service is gone. This just shows that once again this world only goes round because of money (or for the money…)

What is Fabchannel? Fabchannel is (or actually was) a website where they would stream live concerts from De Melkweg and Paradiso in Amsterdam and The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles. They had an extensive archive with concerts that could be reviewed for free at any time.

Unfortunately, Fabchannel has decided to pull out the plug. After trying extensively for many years to create a bond with record labels and trying to convince them that it would be for the benefit of the artists (and therefore the labels) to have their concerts on the channel it has come apparent to them that this will never happen.
The concerts that were on there, have been recorded with the consent of the artists and labels, but it seems like they hit more closed doors as time goes by.

Labels are willing to pay DJ’s and radio stations money to promote bands and songs or to play there songs. Yet they are reluctant to share concerts online to reach more people. Justin Kniest from Fabchannel wrote a piece on their website to share with the Fabchannel fans what has happened and why they have decided to stop everything after 9 years. To me it shows that record labels feel threatened by the internet and won’t see what it can do for them and the artists instead of embracing it and work with it. It can do so much for the music industry, especially now it has already taken a place in the (illegal) music download. You would think that every way of using the internet legally to distribute music worldwide should be used to its full extent.

Who knows, maybe some day Fabchannel will be back and I will be able to enjoy good quality (live) concerts again from the comforts of my own home. I would even be willing to pay a fee to view and / or download these concerts. But for now, I have to go without Fabchannel…

That’s sucky! I didn’t even hear about it until it was gone.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been really sad lately too because they shut down my favorite newspaper (our local newspaper). It was a sad, sad day :(

Wow, that sucks :( I wish the music industry would hurry up and catch up with the technology. I guess they’re getting better about selling tracks online, but it seems like there is so much more they could do.
