Confessions Of An Addict

Every time I go in that place I have to have one, or two, and sometimes even three. There are times when I try really hard to avoid going, but when I need something, I just have no choice.

Today, my mother wanted to go in, and of course I went with her. First I just looked at the other people in there and waiting for my mum to be done. But soon enough I was having one, and right before we were about to leave I sneaked in a second one.

It’s hard being an addict1 sometimes, people find it weird and don’t understand why one enjoys spending one’s time in there and buying one (or two, or three..). Granted there are worse addictions, ones that are bad for your health and even a bigger strain on your wallet than this one.

Sometimes I wonder why I do go in, and not stay outside waiting for whoever went in to be done and come back out again. Because, seriously, taking a book-addict into a book store is like taking an alcoholic into a bar…

Yes, I bought two books again today, while I’m still reading two at the moment and are about to borrow one from a colleague. I just love books and I love to read. Especially now winter is about to arrive again; the rain on the window, the heath turned up high, a nice cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate within reach and a good book to read is so nice :) .

1This entry wasn’t written with the intent to hurt anyone’s feelings. Addictions are a serious thing and very hard to overcome, and I have a lot of respect for those who do manage to overcome their addiction.

From one book addict to another, don’t worry about it. Every time I go to town I promise there is a book bought. When I go to a used book store would you like to know how much I spend? Sure you would. Any where between $40 to $100 in books alone. Do I ever sell any of those books back? Oh no. I keep them all. At my last count I had well over 2500 books in my house. I am pretty sure I have over 5000 now & I add more every week. Do I stop? Nope. Will I ever stop? Nope. I love my books. When I die, some library is going to faint from the book donations they are going to get, lol. After of course my friends online & offline pick out the ones they want, lol.

If you love to read, you should think about joining Pages, the book club that Michelle #224 started for the QBee members. It is a blast. We only read a book a month, but there is a wide variety & we meet online. If you don’t want to read all the books, you can just pick & choose. Come check us out at (http://club.wherewerewe.org), this month we are reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. There is also months where there is just a theme & you can pick any book that deals with the theme. We have lots of fun. Come check it & join if you want.

Thanks Hev, that sounds like a great idea, I’m kind of stuck in the same range of books when it comes to subjects and it’s always fun to step out of that safe zone to find out new things :)

Oh my! We have that in common… I actually have a draft of a post about being addicted to buying books. I bought an average of 3-5 books every week this summer (all were from 2nd hand bookstores or thrift stores) but still! It IS addicting. I mean, I don’t always have time to read but when I do, I can go on for days without sleeping or eating… I just read so I always feel like I can never have enough books.
Are you addicted to books or are you addicting to owning them? I mean, I know I can get books from the library but something about owning a book makes me feel indescribably good. Haha
