Dentist Mania
Can you imagine spending every Thursday morning at a dentist’s office for three weeks in a row? I can…
The past three weeks I went to the dentist’s office to get my teeth done. The first time I went there for my regular check up (which I get done every 6 months) and they noticed a few small cavities, which are most likely due to the use of my medications as I don’t eat a lot of sweets or sugary things. The dentist removed my splint (that keeps my teeth where they are after wearing retainers for years) and fixed up a cavity as well as taking a new cast to replace the splint.
The week after the first appointment I had to get the splint replaced and the last two cavities fixed. Sounds easy enough, you might think, but that turned out to be completely different than I expected. Surely enough the splint was replaced, and one cavity fixed, but since I’m a big chicken when it comes to drilling holes in my teeth I request anaesthetic. My dentist is really understanding and didn’t mind giving me one. Unfortunately for me though he put the anaesthetic in the wrong side of the lower jaw, the left instead of the right…
He was man enough to admit that he made a mistake and didn’t charge me for the anaesthetic, but I had to come back the week after to get the right tooth fixed. He couldn’t give me an anaesthetic on the other side of the lower jaw that same day as it numbs your tongue too and you might bite it or worse.
This meant coming back a third time. The good thing is that he gave the anaesthetic in the right part of the jaw this time, the bad thing? The cavity was bigger than expected and it might be needed to do a root canal if I felt a stabbing pain instead of an annoying one (which could last for weeks). I don’t want to jinx it but it’s been two days since the last treatment and I haven’t felt a thing; not even a bit of annoying pain from the drilling. I truly hope it stays that way and I don’t have to go back a forth time *knocks on wood*
Going back three times and possibly four for one treatment is the most I ever had to go anywhere, what’s your record?

I’ve only had two fillings — and I can’t imagine having to be there so often! I’m absolutely terrified of dentists but even more so of needles so I had an anaesthetic on my first filling but then the second time went without. It was a far better experience.
I hope you don’t need a root canal but, just in case — my mother has had one and she said it didn’t hurt anywhere near as much as people say.
