TOMS Shoes
Let’s admit it, every woman loves shoes. Generally we want pretty shoes, whether they walk comfortably or not. Some of us even buy shoes they can’t walk on, just because they want to have that specific pair ( ‘they look so nice’).
I guess if we all clean out our shoe closet (or wherever you keep your shoes) we will find lots of pairs we don’t really wear anymore. I think most countries have charity shops or second hand stores where you can hand in your shoes. And of course giving away old shoes makes room for new.
And that’s where TOMS Shoes comes in, or could come in actually (or should maybe!). Can you imagine not having ANY shoes, having to walk around bare foot all the time? If you ever walked around barefoot during the summer you know that you could scald your feet, or hurt them any other way because of the dirt etc, so I guess we all know that shoes make a big difference.
When you buy a pair of TOMS Shoes, they donate a pair to a child in need. In November 2007 they will make a shoe drop in South Africa. I think TOMS Shoes are really cute and they come in all kind of different colors and materials. Personally I would really like to get the black suedes (they’re not even that expensive!) but unfortunately TOMS can’t be purchased in stores in The Netherlands yet, nor do they ship internationally yet from their online store.
If you live in the U.S. you can buy a pair online, and if you’re in the Japan, Korea or The United States you can also find them in stores!! I seriously think this is a shoe brand to consider when buying a new pair of shoes. Not only because they are cute and not terribly expensive but because of the fact they donate another pair for every purchase to a child in need. It’s just a little thing anyone can do to help make this world a better place.
Now you’re probably wondering how I heard about TOMS then if they aren’t here in The Netherlands. Well, Hanson (you know, my favorite band
) are now selling their shoes at their shows during their 2007 tour. You can find out more about their reasons for helping out and availability of shoes at shows here.
Also, before every show, the guys will walk 1 mile barefoot through the city and encourage other people to join them. Why barefoot? Well because, as I said earlier; only than you can feel what a difference a pair of shoes can make. There is a list of tour dates available here and there will be an announcement on Hanson.net every day before the walk starts of the time and place of the start of the walk.
So need a new pair of shoes? Think about TOMS! And if you happen to be in the area of a show, feel free to join Hanson, fans and non-fans on the walk!
Plugged: Amber, Nan, Jeff, Laarni, Corinne
P.S. There is no announcement on Hanson.net yet about the contest winners, nor have I heard anyone say they received an email to notify them about winning. Apparently there is a clause in the rules which gives them 30 extra days for the announcement. So I’ll keep you posted.

I love Toms shoes and what a great idea! Hopefully we will have something similar too soon. I also have far too many shoes and I regularly clean them out.
So not only do Hanson produce good music but they support these type of things too? Sounds like a win-win. I agree with Nan, sounds like a lovely idea. I don’t think they have UK support though.

I’ve never heard of TOMS before, but it’s a great idea. I took a look at the web site and the designs are very nice, but I don’t think they deliver to the UK yet…
