First Event

Today I had my first event to photograph. A riding school in a neighboring town was celebrating their 30 years of business. There were all kind of performances in different kind of equestrian disciplines.

I managed to take some great shots and I will post them on Chantal Photography tomorrow, as I still have to prepare them and add a copyright to them. Usually I don’t do that but since some people might want to have a photo of themselves I don’t want them to be able to just take it and get it printed. The whole point of me photographing events (besides the fact that I like photography of course) is to, if possible, make some money off it.

Since this was my first event I didn’t expect too much of the results, especially as I’m still trying to get used to the camera, but I managed to get the timing right. Photographing horses (especially while moving) is pretty hard and takes good timing to get good results. Apparently it’s a specialism in photography and it takes a lot of time, practice and patients. I hope to be able to continue to do this, so I can become better at it.

The next event is the World Championships Icelandic Horses 2007 next month. If I can get a ticket for it that is…

Photographing full stop for me is incredibly hard, so I applaud you for that!

Photographing animals is hard – I agree but the outcome is usually better because they never pose. Photographing children is the hardest subject in my opinion.
