He is listening…
…finally! But I’ll get to that in a minute. I want to start off by saying I didn’t update for a little while (yes four days is pretty long). It’s not because I don’t want to (I actually miss it) but because I can’t. My arthritis has been killing me again since the weekend. A constant change of weather is affecting it again, I guess that’s what you can expect in March going from winter to spring.
When I come home from work, I’m just glad I managed to get through the night without having to call in sick, so after typing for a few hours I really don’t want to struggle with typing an entry.
Now that’s out of the way let’s get back to the main focus of this entry. My dentist! I guess you were expecting something more spectacular, so sorry to disappoint you but that’s not the case. I’ve been telling my dentist for years my jaw dislocates on both sides. He never listens though he just tells me not to jawn with my mouth open. Which apparently isn’t impossible, just very very difficult.
Anyway to make a very long story short, I had a check up appointment which you get here every six months. So I open my mouth and of course my jaw doesn’t dislocate when it usually does. But isn’t that always the case when you need something to happen, and it usually does, at that one moment it doesn’t happen? Chans wouldn’t be Chans though if she didn’t push it a bit and made it dislocate. My dentist goes ‘Ooh there goes the jaw’ so after the check up I tell him it happens regularly, about three times a day at least. And finally, he hears me!
I have an appointment in two weeks to get something made that will help me stop grinding and biting down when sleeping or watching TV and at the same time helps with the dislocating jaw. In the meantime; no biting apples, no chewing gum, no opening my mouth to wide and especially, no jawning..

Nice trick! I’m not quite sure how to yawn with my mouth closed. At least, I did, but I can’t have properly because I still need to yawn afterwards. Em. My dentist is quite evil. He gives me a filling every time I go and before we changed to his practice I had never needed one in my life before. He looks disappointed on the rate occasion that he can’t give me one.
I’m glad he finally listened! I hate it when they don’t — mine let me stick around with this baby tooth till I was 16 and now I’m a junior in HS with braces and a possibility that they can’t completely fix it. Stupid dentists.
Awww I’m sorry about the arthritis problems… I think I’m gonna develop arthritis in a few years… Im not looking forward to it =/
Oh dentists! Your post just reminded me that I need to get back to my hygienist… She has called and sent me 4 post cards and I still haven’t set an appointment. LOL
I do hope your jaw will get fixed soon. Good luck with staying away from chewing gum… that will be a hard one for me to follow!
Oh, I haven’t stopped by here for ages! Sorry to hear about your arthritis giving you trouble again. Hope it stops hurting so much soon. Ah the irony of something not doing what it usually does when you need it to. I remember recently my camera wasn’t working and I was so frustrated, then when I went to the camera shop to have it looked at it was working perfectly, so embarrassing. Good thing the dentist listened to you this time!

My mother used to grind her teeth in her sleep, which is very hard to not do. The problems with her jaw got so bad, that in winter it would swell up so much she looked like she had mumps or something! They did some corrective surgery, and now everythings hunky dorey.
