E-drama Bug
It seems to be going around like the flu and everyone is catching it; the E-drama bug. It’s a recurring ‘trend’ in the Internet world, or so it seems anyway. Ever so often there is this big wave of E-drama covering a lot of websites and dragging them into online battles.
I noticed that it’s usually the owner of badly designed websites (meaning; no or hardly any semantics, accessibility and cross browser compatibility) picking on websites that are somewhat established, have a decent layout (whether that is with images or without) and a reasonably amount of visitors; usually owners of equally established websites.
What makes one want to pick on someone else’s website? There are different reasons for that, the most obvious one being jealousy. I can imagine that someone can be jealous of another person’s talent. I for one wish I had Amanda‘s coding talent or Jem‘s PHP knowledge. But is jealousy a reason to put someone down? Not for me, I wouldn’t in the life of me put both of them down because I wish I had their talent. It only encourages me to get better at coding and PHP myself!
Other’s though, might not know how to deal with their feelings of jealousy properly so they only see one way out; E-drama.
There might be another reason why one would indulge oneself in E-drama; hits. If you talk shit about someone else; guaranteed that this person will defend oneself on their own website. I for one would have my say about it. And even though you might not link the person starting the E-drama, everyone is going to want to know who this person; and there you have it, instant hits.
But you might want to ask yourself if this really is the way to get hits. Do you really want to be known as ‘The bitch from …*’? It will most likely do more bad than good, you’ll have a negative name in the Internet world and you might even be avoided by some. So your hits spark for a few days but eventually things will go down the drain for you. And the final result? You’ll have to start from scratch with a new site and new name to build up something positive.
So in a nutshell; E-drama is fun for a few days, it makes for entertaining posts and sparks up your hits for a bit, but in the end it’s all not worth it.

Exactly, it’s only human to be jealous. I think someone who claims to never be jealous is lying through their teeth.
I’m not one of those to state how bad websites are these days and use other people’s websites as an example for my articles. In my opinion, that’s just wrong. I’m not overly fond of unrequested reviews but I do not have anything against them; after all they are constructive and helpful to the owner.
I never thought if somebody tried to begin e-drama with me that I’d make a blog about it, but it appears I am that type. I’m not sure whether I should be disappointed in myself or not. Is it stooping to their level? However, I also don’t feel they should get away with it.
You always manage to word things so nicely, Chans
By the way, I tried to view Site Statistics (http://www.silent-butterfly.com/?page_id=308) and it came up with a few warnings, and your other theme.
Thanks for that Amber, I upgraded to WP 2.1 today but it seems that some plugins aren’t working properly with it!
I guess that’s the kind of attention they like. I blogged about it, and I don’t think it means I stooped down to their level or anything like that. I just thought it was hella funny
If someone who was better than me said bad things about my site, then I guess that’s an opportunity to learn more. If they can take time to tell me how bad I am, then they can spend just a little more on helping me to improve.
But if that person really has no idea what they are talking, it just really is hee-larious!
Sometimes a good discussion is turning into drama – which is sad but I guess that some people are really conflict averse and some don’t understand in what way something was meant.
I must admit I have found myself laughing at it from time to time – but I try to avoid contributing to the drama. In general I think most E-drama is nothing but rubbish – sometimes it seems that all parts involved really enjoy it – so heck let them.

Heck, jealousy is a human trait. Everyone’s jealous of someone…I know I am, and I’ll bet that despite her wonderfulness and knowledge, Jem envies others for their qualities too.
But like you said, it’s how people deal with it that matters. I like to deal with mine by throwing around big words. Other people prefer to start bitching on others. To each their own…but those that rely on the bitching to validate themselves as people are very very sad little individuals.
