Exclusive
Not divided or shared with others. From Dictionary.com
In this context wouldn’t it include material you get only when you are a paying member of something? Of course I know that the internet is often used to share this information but doesn’t being a paying member give you the right to tell other paying members not to share the information / photos / whatever if they do so in public. You can’t controll what they do on a messenger system, but if they do it on the public side of the very site you’re a member of would it be wrong to point it out to them it’s not supposed to be shared with the non-paying masses?
Maybe some think I’m overreacting, but hear me out. I’m a paying member of a fanclub. Because of that, I get acces to certain things non-paying members don’t. Usually I’m a very sharing person, but not when it comes to these type of things. Some members seem to think it’s still alright to post it on the public side of the fanclub so everyone can read or view this exclusive material.
First of all it’s against the rules of the fanclub and some sites that had the info on it (i.e. fansites) have been asked to remove it, some refused and got shut down. So when I see information posted on the public side of the fanclub I mention it’s not supposed to be there. I’ve been called a saint, and some seem to think I’m overreacting. But quiet honestly I get a bit tired of telling the same people every single time something exclusive comes out, that they aren’t supposed to post it there.
The excuses I’ve heard as to why they share it there range from “hardly any non paying members come here” to “some people just can’t afford to be a member”.
Maybe it sounds harsh, but boo-fucking-hoo, I have to work too to get the money to pay for the club (besides, of course food and rent
) so to me that’s no excuse at all. And if there are hardly any non paying members, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
I’m definitely aren’t trying to start a fight there (or anywhere else for that matter) I just think it’s normal if you say something when exclusive material is shared (especially if it’s on the same website!). Some agree with me, if not most, but they find it hard to keep it from the public side. Isn’t that like throwing in your own windows?
Besides, if those same people where in a store and just had to pay for let’s say, a can of soda. And the next person comes along and gets it for free, they would probably be the first to go up and ask why this person didn’t have to pay for it. To me that’s the same thing, so why allow others to walk of with something you’ve paid for (and quiet a lot too may I add).
So exclusive material like that should stay exclusive and not be spread online or anywhere else. Especially not on the same website. Like I said, I can’t controll it completely but if I see it on the public side of the fanclub I do think I’m allowed to state it’s not supposed to be there.
Am I a nag, a saint, a mix of the previous or just plain right? I opt for the last.

DEFINITELY not overreacting. In this world, you get what you paid for, and that applies to online stuff too!
I see where you are coming from and agree to a certain extent, but will be the first to admit I get a lot of content that is supposed to cost money for free because of “generous” people on the internet. I don’t think it is neccearily right, but I also think the market will dictate the prices. If people stop making money, they will stop providing content, and then everyone looses. Maybe that is selfish of me, but until that starts happening the majority of theives and exploiters will never change their ways.
It’s easy to get, I’m aware of that. And everyone likes free stuff. But like you said Jeff, getting this stuff just puts one in the category of thieves and exploiters.
I don’t know what it is, but something about it sounds illegal
.
Besides, I don’t really get the ‘it’s easy and free to get’ idea anyway. STD’s are easy to get and free but no one wants those..

I agree with you. You paid for it, didn’t you? Then if it’s just being shared, then it’s not worth it…gosh. It may seem harsh to some people, but that’s the essence of being exclusive.
