One for the Dogs

What is it with dog owners that take their dog with them everywhere. And than I mean everywhere. I have relatives that take their dog with them to visit family. Personally I wouldn’t appreciate it if someone took their dog with them when they came to visit me. Not even if it’s a small dog. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against dogs, my parents have a dog and I totally adore him. It’s just that, I don’t want a (strange) dog inside my apartment, maybe do their thing on my carpet or mess up my white sofa. That might sound snobbish but I don’t care. It’s my house and I don’t want the furniture I worked so hard for to buy totally messed up, and when there is no other possibility other than to bring it with you that’s ok. Besides I won’t refuse you to come in when you do bring your pet, I just can’t stand it when one just assumes it’s ok to bring their pets with them. I think it’s even worse when one brings their dog with them when visiting clients. My grandma (who lives in the apartment below me) had a dog groom who took her dog with her, and left him outside in my parents backyard. That might not sound bad, but since Butler (my parents’ dog) is a bit afraid of other dogs, won’t go outside when he was there.
I suppose what pisses me off most about the whole thing, when you ask them not to bring their dog (and explain why) you get told to get used to it! I seriously think if you’re at a point where you tell your clients to get used to you bringing your dog with you, you really need to get your head checked out.

My relatives (mentioned above) even take their dog with them when visiting the GP when picking up a prescription. I’ve never understood why one can’t leave their dog at home for a little while. I bet most dogs prefer staying home over being tied up in front of a supermarket waiting for their owner to get back. We’ve always taught our dog to stay at home when we’re away and behave. We can leave him for a day and he’ll just sleep. Ofcourse there are dogs that are afraid of being left alone, but again I think there is a way of training them and having them get used to it. As a matter of fact I saw a TV show about it a little while ago.

Butler goes with us on holiday, we look for hotels or apartments that allow you to bring your dog. If we want to go to a restaurant while on holiday we only go to restaurants that allow you to bring your dog. Yes there are restaurants that allow you to bring your dog. Actually, some restaurants even mention it when you walk past. And, in some cases we leave the dog behind in the room or the apartment while having dinner. But that’s only when we’re having dinner in a restaurant close by. Does that sound mean? Not to me, he’ll just sleep anyway. And while in the restaurant, he just lays under the table (and sleeps hehe). He doesn’t beg for food, but he’ll appreciate a bowl of water :) .

What do you think, is it appropriate to bring your dog (or any pet) with you to visit relatives (without asking them), clients, GP, or any other place you can think of?

Ooh and before I ‘forget’. Last Wednesday I got offered a permanent contract with the company I currentlly work for. My contract would have run out in June, but not anymore as I accepted their offer (of course!)

People should ask permission before bringing their pets to someone else’s home… Otherwise, they’re being rude and inconsiderate… >__

Gaaaah! sorry for double posting again – the comment got cut off…

I can understand that they’re really concerned about their pets… I had a dog (I was about 7 y/o at that time) who had separation anxiety – she got depressed when she was left alone for too long (she died after three months..I got really angry with my dad after that because he was the one who made us leave her behind. We couldn’t take her until after we had moved to our new house)…

Anyway, people really should be considerate enough to ASK first. After all, it’s NOT their home

Right? ^_^

I personally think it’s weird to take your dog anywhere with you. Maybe that’s just because in the states we don’t do that. The only dogs allowed in public places are the ones for blind people. I dunno, like I said, the whole concept strikes me as weird. I know I wouldn’t want my furniture messed up either though. So I feel ya on that one.

And in response to your comment, it’s illegal for anyone under 18 to drive talking on their cell phone here, headset or not.

No one ever listens though. Which doesn’t surprise me.
